About MeAs any individual I have always had dreams and goals. My dreams and goals have changed from when I was young to now. When I was in elementary school/middle school my goal was always to go play basketball in college followed by a shot at the professional level. Around junior high I decided to switch the dream to running. I developed a great passion for cross country and track that allowed me an opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. Now as I begin to see life from a different prospective (coach instead of athlete) my dream is to be a good and positive influence on every individual that I come into contact with throughout my life. My goal is to teach and coach students to develop life skills and character through sports.

The Beginnings
|
I grew up in Ozark, MO and was extremely fortunate to have two loving parents. My father, Douglas Furtkamp, is a teacher and coach in the Branson School District. My mother, Lisa Furtkamp, is also in the Branson School District as a social worker. As you can see the apple doesn't fall from the tree. Along with my parents I had two younger brothers, Travis and Tanner. Both of which helped me get into more trouble than I ever could have alone. I always had to be moving some way or some how. I was that active little kid who had a difficult time sitting still. I can remember times as a kid that my mom would use my energy for good by making me clean the house if I were to get into trouble. In saying that my childhood was filled with sports on a consistent basis. Every season I was involved in some type of sport or activity whether it was basketball, soccer, football, baseball, track, gymnastics, or tae kwon do. Sports became a way for me to channel my energy in a positive way. I made friends, learned new skills and develop character that is still very present in the man I am today. In junior high I had to make some decisions about which sports I wanted to really purse so I cut the list down to cross country, track, basketball, and soccer. I played all of these until I reached high school. Throughout high school I really put my focus into basketball and running (track and cross county.) I found a decent amount of success in running which lead me to getting a scholarship in college at Southwest Baptist University. While in college I found that I loved the sports that made me who I am and wanted to help others discover the same. Receiving my degree in K-12 physical education and health in December 2013 has been the start to my new journey.
In the summer of 2015 I got married to a wonderful woman, Jayme, who continues to challenge me to grow and develop. |
Hobbies/Activities |
I have a great love for sports and feel they provide children with many opportunities. I have continued to run but more for the enjoyment than anything. However, they're times I miss the competitive atmosphere and will jump into a road race just to see how I fair. I have started to develop more of a love for reading. As a kid I struggled with reading comprehension, which in turn made reading difficult. The older I have become the more I really seem to enjoy books and the knowledge they can provide. I enjoy hiking and camping, it allows for one to really connect and find the beauty in nature.
